CONVICTION FOR COUNTERFEITERS SELLING CAR ACCESSORIES
This month saw the conclusion of a 3 year investigation by WRi and Knowsley Trading Standards when the company Euro Car Mats Limited pleaded guilty to 39 counts under the Trademarks Act, 1994 relating to the sale of hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of counterfeit car mats.
Following an investigation by WRi on behalf of our client BMW, the trader, who was selling on eBay was identified and the investigation referred to Trading Standards. Raid action in November 2015 saw counterfeit goods worth nearly £100,000 seized. The indepth and audacious investigation that followed by Knowsley Trading Standards and the support provided by WRI and others led to the company's guilty plea.
Sentencing will take place on the 10th November
COLLABORATION LEADS TO MULTIPLE ACTIONS AT RETAIL PREMISES
Following an indepth test purchase exercise by WRi in 17 retail shops across the UK on behalf of a client in the FMCG sector, in September and October 2017 WRi operatives joined Trading Standrds from Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol and Enfield on visits resulting in the seizure of counterfeit and 'grey import' consumer products.
Following advice by Trading Standards the traders abandoned the goods for destruction by WRi. Further investigations are ongoing re counterfeit goods entering the supply chain.
Graham Mogg, MD at WRi said ''This is a clear example of how private industry and law enforcement can work together to acheive a successful outcome. We are very grateful to Trading Standards for supporting these investigations and taking action on behalf of our clients''
